It can happen at any age, though children are slightly more susceptible than adults. In addition to bad breath, tonsillitis can cause:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sore throat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Red, swollen tonsils<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>White or yellow patches on the tonsils<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty swallowing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of voice or hoarseness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swollen or tender glands in your neck<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fever, headache, loss of voice and swollen or tender glands in your neck.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your tonsillitis is caused by bacteria, antibiotics will likely be prescribed. However, if it\u2019s caused by a virus, your doctor will most likely recommend home treatments like rest, plenty of hydration and using over-the-counter treatments from Ruwe Family Pharmacy or other nearby drugstores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have frequently recurring bouts of tonsillitis or an infection that doesn\u2019t respond to other treatments, surgery to remove the tonsils and adenoids may be recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gastroesophageal reflux disease, also known as GERD, is a chronic digestive illness that occurs when stomach acid repeatedly flows back into your esophagus. The most common symptom is heartburn, but GERD can also cause:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hoarseness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feeling like there\u2019s a lump in your throat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chronic cough<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sour taste in your mouth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Postnasal drip<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bad breath<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>GERD is often treated with a combination of lifestyle changes to eliminate foods that cause symptoms, as well as medications that reduce the amount of stomach acid you produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sinusitis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses, which causes them to become blocked and full of fluid. If it lasts longer than 12 weeks, it\u2019s considered chronic sinusitis. Common symptoms include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sinus pain and pressure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/entandallergyspecialists.org\/ent\/congestion-stuffy-nose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nasal congestion<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thick nasal discharge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of smell and taste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Headache<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fever<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bad breath<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Nasal sprays and saline rinses can help reduce symptoms of sinusitis, as well as short-term use of decongestants. If your sinus issues are a result of a bacterial infection or allergies, medications to treat those conditions can be helpful.
